Why Jonesboro

Why Jonesboro

Recently, our Vice President of Services, Don Wilborne, shared a few thoughts on why Jonesboro is a great place to work, live, and build a business.

"You may ask yourself why Optus would choose to locate its headquarters and national distribution center in a location that maybe unknown to most. While some may not be familiar with Jonesboro, it is quite a special place. The cost of living in Jonesboro is 15% below the national average. Forbes magazine has recently listed Jonesboro, Arkansas as a Best Small Place for Business and Careers.

We also have great public schools that have been nationally recognized. Last year, Brookland Elementary was one of two schools in our state to receive the National Title I Distinguished Schools award for exceptional student performance. Newsweek also recognized Jonesboro High School in 2007, 2008 and 2009 as one of the top high schools in the nation.

While Jonesboro has a population of about 68,000 and another 14,000 when Arkansas State University is in session, the city serves as the primary retail and employment hub for an area of over 125,000. Jonesboro is conveniently located about an hour away from Memphis and two hours from Little Rock by car giving you easy access to major airports and other metros.

When someone joins our team in a remote home-based position, they will travel to and from Jonesboro fairly often in their first 90 days of employment but much less frequently as time goes on.

Many of our remote employees ask 'What should I do while hanging out in Jonesboro after work?' You can catch a Memphis Grizzlies or Redbirds game depending on the time of year. If you don’t want to drive an hour, there is plenty to do right here in town. It seems that a new retail store or restaurant is opening here every week. Our most recent additions include Buffalo Wild Wings, Longhorn Steakhouse, Academy Sports and even more local spots are opening in our bustling downtown area. We are even awaiting the opening of our very own Krispy Kreme! The Mall at Turtle Creek, which opened in 2006, offers many shopping choices, as well. Not to mention, you can enjoy an A-State football, basketball or baseball game while you are in town. You can do all of this while staying at one of many hotels located less than two miles from Optus headquarters. Once our candidates experience their first visit to Jonesboro, they are often surprised by this charming town and begin taking Jonesboro seriously as their next home!"
